« And already almost a month has passed..... | Main | Challenging the idea of "challenging goals" »

April 28, 2008

One of the sessions that I attended at the Association for Coaching conference in mid-March was run by Andrew Buckley and entitled, "Working on the boundary". Here he raised the very important issue of mental health and well-being in our "coachees". Not having come from a psychotherapeutic background, I wanted to know more, so I've just taken delivery of his book, entitled, A Guide to Coaching and Mental Health, and subtitled, "the recognition and management of psychological issues".

Some of the issues he covers include: unusual behaviours, signs to look for, categories of mental illness and their definition. Of course, as I'm sure others do also, I raise the question of "what is normal?" and so too, "what is abnormal?" - or what interferes with effective functioning in the day to day work environment?
